It’s officially autumn, and who doesn’t love a pumpkin spiced latte? Boost your favourite autumnal hot drink by adding CBD to your coffee. It’s a brilliant way to optimise your general wellbeing while enjoying a warming pick-me-up in the morning. We recommend adding 2 sprays of the Water Soluble CBDX per cup or if you prefer you can opt for the 4% CBD oil. CBD coffee doesn’t just taste good, it feels good too!
Coffee and CBD
Around 83% of adults now drink coffee on a daily basis. Coffee shops have been on the rise for many years, so it’s no surprise that the latest health craze to take over the nation, CBD, has led to a new trend of CBD coffee shops springing up, such as our local CBD coffee shop here in Bristol, Mary Jane’s.
How does coffee work?
As well as tasting great, coffee makes us more alert. In some cases it can literally become a life saver, particularly on long drives or while operating heavy machinery.
This is because of the way the caffeine found in coffee beans interacts with a compound in our body called adenosine. Adenosine binds with our adenosine receptors in the nervous system and creates a chemical reaction that makes us feel tired. On a molecular level, caffeine closely resembles adenosine so when it binds with our adenosine receptors it blocks this feeling of sleepiness.
Moderation is key
Coffee is also known to be an antioxidant, ridding the body of inflammatory toxins. However, having too much coffee is known to be a bad thing. It can cause jitters, afternoon slumps, mood swings and lack of sleep when we do need it. Mixing coffee and CBD could be the key to reducing these negative side effects.
At present we do not have enough evidence to say how this may be the case, which makes it important that when you try CBD coffee that you pay attention to how your body feels and how much CBD coffee feels right for you. We would recommend keeping below 5 cups of coffee per day and between 10-15mg of CBD per cup, starting with lower quantities of around 5mg per cup and building up as your tolerance increases.
Make the shot of espresso and pour into a mug.
Put the pumpkin puree into a small pan and heat gently.
Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and vanilla and stir together for 2 minutes.
Slowly pour in the milk, ensuring the milk does not boil by constantly stirring.
In 2-3 minutes, the mixture should be smooth and bubbly. Take off the heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes.
Strain the mixture through a sieve into the mug. Add either the drops of the Amma Life 4% CBD oil or the Water Soluble CBDX and stir with an electric whisk to give it extra froth. If you like, sprinkle the cinnamon on top for added flavour, and serve.
