Sports Aid week is here! (21st-27th September 2020)

Despite the challenges the sports (and entire) world has faced so far this year, Sports Aid Week is going ahead this week between the 21st and 27th September. So it’s time to get running, dancing, swimming, skiing, rowing, fencing, cycling, boxing... just about anything that gets you moving!

You set the miles (minimum 1), post your #MyMiles challenge on social media and nominate others to join in. Twenty minutes of any form of exercise equals one mile. And don’t forget to donate! This video explains more about how it works:Your #MyMiles activities support young, talented athletes aged between 12-18 who cover around 40 miles a week in training alongside busy schedules of school, university, homework, family time and social lives.
This year, with restrictions on the use of indoor sports facilities, it’s time to get creative about how you take part and raise money for Sports Aid. You could choose to complete the challenge by walking your dog or neighbour’s dog, cycling to work instead of using public transport, or even just going for a stroll. The charity provides vital financial support to this country’s most exceptionally talented athletes. On average, young athletes and their families spend £7,000 each year to meet the costs of their sport.
Without Sports Aid’s support, many would face the tough decision to either give up, or carry the huge financial burden of continuing their sport. 59% of SportsAid athletes revealed they would not have been able to train and compete as much without the charity’s support. In the past, Sports Aid has helped bring us some of our finest sporting talent, including:
  • Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill
  • Sharron Davies
  • Duncan Goodhew
  • David Wilkie
  • Sir Mo Farah
  • Baroness Grey-Thompson
  • Dame Sarah Storey
  • Sir Steve Redgrave
  • Dame Katherine Grainger
  • Daley Thompson CBE

And since 1976 has distributed over £50 million in awards.
So if you are taking part to raise funds for this exceptional charity, don’t do it alone. Tag your friends on social media and get them involved too!
