Top ways to support your mental health

This week is Mental Health Awareness week, so we’d like to mark that by sharing our top tips for boosting your mental wellbeing, not just this week, but all year round. Taking CBD to support our mental health is just one of many ways to maintain balance.

Get outside

Studies show that even just 15 minutes in natural daylight increases levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D increases levels of serotonin in the brain, boosting your mood. Being in nature is said to reduce stress and anxiety and improve energy levels.

Exercise

Regular exercise helps you sleep, concentrate, look and feel better. It has significant benefits for your mental health, with mood-boosting endorphins being released before and after a work out. Any exercise that is good for your body is good for your mental wellbeing too. Try doing 30 minutes of daily exercise – preferably outside for a double boost to your health.

Spend time with friends and family

Studies show that those with a good support network of friends and family are generally happier and more satisfied with their life. Aim to spend around 6-7 hours at a time with loved ones for best results.

Stay hydrated

Drinking plenty of water has many documented health benefits. Talking to a friend over a relaxing cup of tea is a great way to hydrate, offload and boost your mood – especially when it’s a cup of Amma Life CBD tea.

Do something you enjoy

Take time at least once a week to do the things that make you happy. Whether it be painting, dancing, singing, watching a funny film, baking, colouring, or walking a dog – as long as it makes you feel happy, do it!

Gratitude

Each day note 3 things you are grateful for and 3 things that went well. Concentrating on the positive aspects of each day can alter the way you view your life, leading to better mental health and happiness.

Sleep

Good sleep is said to help with depression, concentration levels and regulation of diet. Aim for 7 or more hours of undisturbed sleep, and avoid screens for at least an hour before bed.

Take a bath

Having a good long soak at least once a week is a great way to relax. Add Epsom salts, which are said to help relieve stress, and massage your skin with nourishing Amma Life CBD cream to lock in moisture and maintain healthy, hydrated skin after you get out.

Eat well

Everything you eat is absorbed into your body, so it’s important not just for your mood but your physical health too to eat a balanced, varied and nourishing diet. Eating plenty of oily fish, flaxseed and walnuts is said to lead to decreased rates of depression and a healthier gut. Try adding a daily dose of Amma Life CBD oil into your diet to support wellbeing and optimize your health.

Write it down

Writing down your feelings or expressing your emotions through creative writing is hugely effective in engaging your senses and connecting with your mind. You will often feel lighter and happier after unburdening your silent thoughts onto paper. Try journaling, poetry or story writing.

Be present

Switch off your phone, turn off the TV and tune in to your breathing. Listen to what is happening right here, in this moment. Notice what is happening in your body, and be aware of any smells, tastes or other sensations. Mindfulness is a great way to let go of the past, stop worrying about the future, and be happy in the ‘now’.

Be kind to yourself and others

Helping others makes us feel good and brings with it an enormously rewarding sense of wellbeing, community and friendship. It can also bring you closer together and build stronger, happier relationships.
